LOCALS ONLY
Dallas Sports Story of the Week: The Stars and Mavs are both taking steps to move away from the American Airlines Center. For the Dallas Mavericks, that means moving to the former Valley View Mall site in North Dallas, where they plan to build a new arena and entertainment district ahead of the 2031-32 season. Find out more about the future home of Dallas basketball in this WFAA piece. The Dallas Stars will be moving arenas as well, with the franchise submitting a nonbinding letter of intent to move to The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano in 2031, where an accompanying mixed-use entertainment district is also planned. See more about the decision in this DLLS Sports story.
College Sports Report: It’s a Texas-sized battle for the Women’s College World Series this week! The Texas Longhorns took home Game 1 in a 7-3 win over Texas Tech. Now, with the top prize in collegiate softball hanging in the balance, the Longhorns are just a single win away from clinching the championship. See highlights from last night’s game here, plus find out how to catch Game 2 tonight here.
The Sports Story You Need to See: NBA lottery reform is here and is already set to go into effect next season. The new “3-2-1” format flattens the lottery odds across an expanded 16 team field, with the three teams with the worst regular season records receiving a lessened chance at the first overall pick. See ESPN’s pros and cons to the new anti-tanking reforms here.
What We’re Watching: The championship action extends from college into the pros as both the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup heat up this June! We’re cheering on the Spurs as they look to bounce back tomorrow after a tough Game 1 loss last night against the New York Knicks. Head to our friends at Do210 to see their massive NBA Finals preview. On the NHL side, the red-hot Vegas Golden Knights came back to take down the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1. Check out the recap here, plus find out how you can catch tonight’s Game 2 here.
